AVeryPublicEducationwillseetheheadteacherandasmallgroupofYear9and10pupilsfromonestatesecondaryschoolandoneprivate,boardingsecondaryschoolswappingplacestospendaweekimmersedintheschoollifeoftheother.Byfilmingtheexperiencesandreactionsoftheindividualsinvolvedandthosearoundthemineachschool,theseriesaimstoprovideaninsightintosomeofthekeydifferencesbetweenthetwosectorsatatimewheneducationisapoliticalbattlefieldandthebroadperceptionisofagulfinstandardsbetweenthem.Withmorethanathirdofthecurrentcabinethavingemergedfromfee-payingschoolsandregularreportsaboutstateschoolpupilsfallingbehindtheirprivately-educatedcounterpartsinlandingplacesatthebestuniversitiesandthebestjobs,theprogrammeswillsetouttoexplorethesocial,economicandeducationalchallengesanddifferencesthatfacebothgroups.But,overthetwoepisodes,itwillalsoseektohighlightsharedexperiencestoseewhattheycanpotentiallylearnfromeachother.ThetwoschoolsinvolvedareTheBemroseSchool,inDerbyandWarminsterSchool,inWiltshire.Bothschoolsaremixedgenderandthepupilstakingpartintheswaparedrawnfrompupilsaged13-15fromYears9and10.
